Wishing Johnny the Best!

Wishing Johnny the Best! by William Albritton

Long time CFA member Johnny “the Rocket” will be leaving us to move to Kansas City. We hate to see him go as he adds so much to the CFA community. Johnny has one of the most positive and encouraging attitudes I’ve had the opportunity to be around. He is so positive, he will not even admit that “Fran” is hard or a max effort back squat is heavy!

We had a great time this summer as he competed with us in the Summer Partner Throw Down in Denham Springs. One of the WODs included 200 jump ropes to be split up how ever the team chose. The only stipulation was that each partner had to complete at least one jump rope. One partner could do 199 but the other partner had to get at least one. Up to this point, Johnny had never been able to do a jump rope. We practiced and practiced leading up to the event but it wasn’t happening.  The event started with a 600m run and as he always does at the gym, Johnny smoked it. Next up was power snatch which we got through with no problem. Then came the jump ropes. If both of us didn’t get at least one, we would be disqualified early in the day. Again, Johnny had never done a jump rope and now we were right in the middle of the competition. Johnny missed the first few attempts. Then the crowd started getting behind  him. All of a sudden Johnny did not one but several jump ropes! Check out the video here. He came through when the pressure was on! Johnny is a gamer! Not only is Johnny easily doing jump ropes now, you should see him knock out several unassisted pull ups in a row!

Join Johnny Thursday at the noon class for his last WOD. We will do a special WOD in honor of one of our most encouraging members…and you better believe it will involve jump ropes and pull ups! When asked if he liked power snatches, his response was “Love ’em!” so I’m sure you see will that too. The WOD will be only the second WOD in CFA history to be developed and named by CFA. “Johnny” will consist of a 10 min AMRAP of 5 pull ups, 10 power snatch & 15 jump ropes.

  1. Johnny –
I hate to see you leaving us. It has been a pleasure working out with and learning from you. I know you will find a gym in KC and be an inspiration there as well. Best of luck – see you tomorrow!

  2. Johnny,

I am going to miss you my friend!!!! You are an inspiration to me and many others at CFA. As William said in the blog, your attitude, smile, and willingness to help others are infectious and a welcome site at the box. I wish I could be at the noon class on Thursday to celebrate you and enjoy your WOD with you. Good luck in Kansas City and God bless!!!

    Your friend,

    Alan
