Olympic Lifting Course for Ladies – The Next 3 Thursday Evenings

Olympic Lifting Course for Ladies by William Albritton

One of the joys I get out of coaching CrossFit is watching ladies throw out the media’s portrayal that females should be supper skinny, eat 1,200 calories a day and do tons of cardio. Have you seen a female hit a back squat that is 1.5 times her body weight or hit a clean and jerk PR? The excitement and emotion is phenomenal! – much more so than losing a few pounds on the scale while noticing no difference in the mirror. Who cares about looking like Kate Moss when you can clean & jerk more than your body weight?! The saying has become cliche but “strong is the new skinny”! For just about all of you, getting strong will mean losing inches and dress sizes. The confidence and emotional high I have seen by ladies hitting new PRs and lifting heavy weights in the gym is amazing.

We are excited to bring in guest-coach Josh Miquez to put on an Olympic Lifting class on the next three Thursdays (Dec 20, 27 & Jan 3) from 6-7pm. Josh is an intern in the Gale Hatch Olympic Lifting Program in Baton Rouge. The Hatch program has produced members of 3 Olympic teams and numerous other national titles.

These classes are for all females at any level – beginner or intermediate. This class will be great for the ladies that just started CrossFit in the last month or those that have been doing it two years. The first class will cover the snatch. The second class will cover the clean and jerk. The 3rd class will work on both movements. We hope to see the first successful Oly lift for some of you or some new PRs!  You will leave the course with a better understandng of the lifts, some homework  and an eye for the movements so you will know what to spot when lifting with a partner or video taping yourself. The classes are free and will be limited to 10 at each class. Each class will cover new material but the classes do not build on each other. Feel free to attend all three or choose one that fits your schedule. Please register in advance by clicking here. Please note you must register for the three classes separately.

Here is an entertaining article from Catalyst Athletics on women weight lifters. Note the list is typical of training programs geared specifically toward Oly lifting and not a 3 day course or CFA’s Performance WODs…so your butt is not going to turn into J-Lo’s by only doing the 3 day course or the Performance WODs!
